Update 9/7/2021: This program is full and registration is now closed.
Thank you for your interest.
Four years ago, UUCG offered a listening group called “Working on Whiteness.” We invited people in the congregation who identify as white to gather in the spirit of our congregational covenant. With practices of deep listening, we spent twelve 2-hour sessions across a 10 month period investigating and reflecting on the effects of white privilege in our culture. We identified the ways that we personally benefit from the effects of systemic white supremacist systems. We supported each other as we faced the discomfort this creates.
We are planning our second offering of this program for 2021-2022. White supremacy as a collective and historical energy still runs the systems of our national culture, politics, economics, education, healthcare, and the various infrastructures that we depend on each day. Since our last offering, our national politics has exploded into open examples of white nationalist attempts to stop and silence conversations about racism in the US. The twelve meeting dates are as follows: Sept. 18, Oct. 2, Oct. 23, Nov. 13, Dec. 11, Jan. 8, Jan. 22, Feb. 5, Feb. 19, Mar. 5, Mar. 19, and April 16. These sessions will be online via Zoom.
If you are interested in participating in this group exploration, please register, and select the “online Working on Whiteness” option.
