It is our tradition here at UUCG to offer specialized youth programs annually, on alternating years. This coming spring (2018), Faith Development will be offering O.W.L. for 7th – 9th grade students.
O.W.L. stands for Our Whole Lives. Developed by the UUA and the United Church of Christ, OWL is a sexuality education curriculum available for ages 5 through adult. At UUCG, we present the program for adolescents. OWL is more than just a lesson in the nuts and bolts of sex. It is a program designed to model and teach caring, compassion, respect, and justice. OWL addresses the values and feelings that youth have about themselves and the world. And your community of faith is a great place to start this conversation.
We require a minimum of 6 enrolled youth to hold the program. If you are interested in learning more and attending a parent orientation this fall, please contact Christiana McQuain.
Adults: Are you longing to contribute to the future of the world? Do you want to empower youth to think for themselves? Are you interested to hear what kids these days are really thinking (and how little things have changed since you were a kid)? Then volunteer to become an O.W.L. facilitator! UUCG is currently seeking facilitators for the 7th-9th grade age group. There will be a training in east Tennessee in mid-October of this year, and if you’re interested, we want to send you! Contact Christiana McQuain. or Karen Smith for more information and get with the program!
