We consider the roots of the Labor Day holiday, and the role our labor might play if humanity were to respect the inherent worth and dignity of every person. How can we live out an invitation to our communities to pursue justice, equity, and compassion in human relations? How can we embody the spiritual definition of love to foster change inside of a society that – at its worst – reveres materialism, celebrates greed, trumpets a desire for power-over politics, and blithely deems poverty inevitable?
