Welcome to Yoga!

This class is open to members and friends of UUCG, and will be honoring the protocols of the Reconvening Guidelines.

This mat class, led by JoAnn Weiss, aligns the breath with traditional asana – yoga postures – to build strength, flexibility, stability, and balance. As it does so, it clears the mind and invigorates the spirt in a way no other exercise can do.

The format consists of warm-up and centering exercises, followed by a vinyasa flow linking the breath with the movement as we transition from seated to standing and balancing postures. The class ends with cool down stretches, core work, and savasana. Everyone is welcome – from beginner to advanced. Modifications and variations will be given. Please bring your own mat and water. Other props such as a block and strap are useful, but not necessary.

Please note: All students are asked to respect the limits of their own body. This class will include a variety of poses, including forward bends, lateral bends, back bends, lateral twists, and inverted poses which may be contraindicated for an individual with high blood pressure, heart conditions, or certain medications. Therefore, all participants will be asked to sign a liability waiver releasing JoAnn and UUCG of any injury/harm resulting from this class.

About the instructor: JoAnn has been practicing yoga for 14 years, and teaching for 7 years. She is registered with Yoga Alliance (200-hour certification), with additional certification in Accessible Yoga, Roots of Yoga, Decolonizing Yoga, Pilates, and more.

Cost: This class is donation-based, with all proceeds going to UUCG. Suggested donation is $1-10 per class.
