It’s BACK! Join UUCG CUUPS in MAGICAL ARTS & CRAFTS! We will be gathering before the Beltane Ritual to create beautiful ribbon and nature wands! Bring your sticks, ribbons, flowers, snips of herbs and anything else you want on your wand. We will also have supplies for you to use if need be!
Ribbon wands made their popularity in China where the Ribbon Dance began in the Han Dynasty (206-420 CE). The dance was to honor Hsing Po, who thwarted an assassination attempt on the Han Emperor, where he used his long silk sleeves to block the sword of the assassin. The ribbons were traditionally on the sleeves, however later attached to small sticks to add energy to the dance. Now used in child development, competition dancing, wedding send offs and more the ribbon wand is here to stay.
The Ribbon wands we make today are to represent the Maypole. Traditionally in Germany, Britain and Rome the may pole and dancing became part of every fertility ritual held every spring/summer in rural areas. Today the celebrations of Beltane generally include a Maypole and Maypole dance. We create our ribbon wands today to represent the Maypole and can dance with them around the grove in celebration of Beltane and the fertility of the season!
