This ritual has been accruing many rich elements over the years, and that’s a good sign. Historically, it was the festival of regathering of the clans after a summer of farming, tending the flocks and creating an abundance of food and resources for the coming winter. Believe it or not, we have been in the darkening half of the year for 5 weeks now.

Here’s what’s going on in this ritual:
  • beginning our third year of honoring Mother Earth with an altar of offering
  • bringing canned goods for the Lawrenceville coop.
  • creating Loves Lists to place on our home altars for prayer and healing work
  • writing down a commitment to something that needs reconciling and casting it into a Lughnasadh fire
  • reinvesting our four talismans on our altar with the energies they hold for us all year long.
  • doing our working for healing, help, guidance and wisdom for all who participate.
And there is a very special event going on in this ritual. Over the years, I developed a Nine Waves of Blessing ritual for babies born to any of our members. We have used it twice over the last 15 years. The ritual is based on what is found in the Carmina Gadelica, a 19th century collection of rituals, prayers, spells et al from Scotland that are believed to pre-date Christianity there.
